The 12th MSC Cruiseship has started operations on Brazil’s first cruise route. The company announced that it will start this new route with weekly departures from the Port of Santos, starting December 1st, 2016.

Cruises from South America have returned after an almost two-year hiatus. Before the weekend, the MSC Preziosa set off from the Brazilian port of Santos on a three-night journey.

MSC Cruises, which has a long history in the area, aims to have numerous ships in operation throughout the continent, with a focus on Brazil, in the following week. MSC Seaside, one of the world’s most advanced ships, is among them.

South American Cruising is Back!

Cruises in Europe, Asia, and North America have been sailing smoothly for months, but cruises in South America have been on hold until this weekend due to the industry’s voluntary suspension because to the worldwide COVID-19 epidemic.

From both Santos and Rio de Janeiro, the ship will give tourists multiple mini-cruises in Brazilian waterways. MSC Seaside and MSC Splendida, both of which will begin service from Santos next month, will join her.

The MSC Preziosa is the eleventh ship to begin passenger service, with the majority of the ships travelling between Europe and the United States. The commencement of operations is far sooner than the cruise company had previously said; the cruise line had previously stated that operations would resume in December.

The fact that the cruise line is already running is due to health regulations for cruise ships issued last week by Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency, which provide a clear road for ships to operate in.

Brazil Enacts Strict Health Regulations

MSC’s cruise ships in Brazil will be subject to stringent regulations. Each vessel will be required to conduct a daily test involving 10% of passengers and 10% of crew members at random. This is in addition to the regular health screenings for passengers.

All crew members will be tested for COVID-19 once a week, and masks will be required for all visitors and crew members on board, in port, and in connected facilities.

Although social separation is not required between guests in the same travel groups, it is required between strangers. However, since the ships are only authorized to sail with a maximum capacity of 75%, this is unlikely to be a big issue.

This year, five cruise ships will begin service in Brazil.

MSC and Costa Cruises intend to deploy at least five cruise ships along the Brazilian coast for the 2021/22 cruise season, including the MSC Preziosa, MSC Seaside, and MSC Splendida from MSC Cruises, as well as the Costa Smeralda and Costa Fascinosa from Costa Cruises.

MSC Seaside will be based in Santos, near Sao Paolo, and will cruise to Ilha Grande, Salvador de Bahia, Maceio, and Buzios before returning to Santos. Guests will also have the option of boarding the ship in Salvador and continuing on the same itinerary. On December 4, 2021, the inaugural cruise will set sail.

From mid-December, the MSC Splendida will be sailing from Sao Paolo to Ilhabela, Porto Belo, Balneário Cambori, and Cabo Frio, providing visitors 7-night cruises around the Brazilian coast.
