Today is the eleventh. March 2021. Forty-nine years ago, Carnival Cruise Line’s first ship, the TSS Mardi Gras, left the Port of Miami. This marked the beginning of an era when fun and affordable entertainment was the preserve of the rich and famous.

The line, of course, has had many pioneers in the industry and has continued to grow to become a world leader in the cruise industry. To date, Carnival Corporation has welcomed more than 90 million guests and is the cruise line’s flagship ship.

This year, Mardi Gras, the company’s first new ship, will debut in early June. This ship has several firsts: it is the first ship in North America to run on LNG. It also houses the first roller coaster at sea.  The sister ship Carnival Celebration is expected to enter service next year.

Looks like it: Mardi Gras’ debut is five times later.

To celebrate all of these accomplishments in its 49-year history, the line asked guests what they missed most about sailing aboard during a challenging year for Carnival Cruise Line. The full list is at the end of this article.

The 48th year is the year we missed.

While ’49 will be the year we know and love to celebrate the return of the cruise, ’48 will be the year we remember only as the missing year.

For a year now, we have known what the virus can do to ships and cruise lines. Carnival Cruise Line was stunned to celebrate the arrival of the most anticipated cruise ship in the line’s history, Mardi Gras.

Looks like it: Carnival Cruise Line cancels all cruises through June 2021.

In that year, customers wanted to come on board, crew members wanted to return to work, and the ships were in ports and anchorages in the United States, the Bahamas, Europe, Asia and Australia.

Year 48 will go down in history as the year Carnival Cruise Line ships did not sail.

49 The moments that carnivalgoers miss the most

This year’s celebration will coincide with the 50th anniversary celebration next year. Carnival’s 50th anniversary celebrations will begin in March 2022 – the company’s anniversary month – with a series of engagements at sea.

They take place off the coasts of the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexico and Australia and offer unique entertainment and events throughout the year. The year ends in November when the Carnival Celebration arrives in Port Miami.

frequently asked questions

What happens if a passenger misses a cruise ship?

If you miss a ship, you should either meet it at a later port of call, or consider yourself written off and go home. Your tour operator, travel agency or travel insurance company can help you plan your trip, otherwise you will have to organise it yourself.

Are cruise staff allowed to sleep with guests?

Sleeping with guests is strictly prohibited on cruise ships, and any employee caught with a tourist risks serious consequences – but that doesn’t stop them.

What happens if you miss your ride?

For example, Carnival states directly on its website that if you miss the departure of your cruise due to flight delays booked through its Fly2Fun flight program, it will arrange for flight, hotel, and/or ground transportation so that you can reach your next port of call on time, at no cost to you.
