In a recent story about how an American Airlines flight attendant managed to feed the entire plane with pizza from inside the airport, it was revealed that this is not the first time such a thing has happened.
A man in the United States, conducted an experiment to see if he could get a pizza delivered from inside of the airport. He did it with success and even had enough for everyone on his flight.
Pizza Hut Pizzas From Within The Airport Catered An Entire Flight For American Airlines
on August 7, 2021 by Gary Leff
A catering cart loaded to the brim with Pizza Hut pizza was seen on an American Airlines aircraft out of Georgetown, Guyana. After a flight is diverted, we’ve heard plenty of tales of pilots ordering pizzas for the aircraft. The pizza boxes, on the other hand, are placed onto galley carts to be distributed by cabin staff throughout the flight!
American Airlines’ basic menu does not include pizza. Last Sunday, an aircraft from Georgetown to JFK in New York was diverted. This overnight flight usually only receives refreshments in the rear. In reality, American has removed stoves from the coach galley, meaning that economy passengers on this 2500 mile Boeing 737-800 trip would be unable to cook meals.
However, the scheduled refreshments were consumed as the aircraft waited to take off again in Barbados, so the trip was supplied from inside the airport… Pizza Hut is a chain of restaurants that serves pizza. According to a representative,
Due to low visibility at GEO, flight 2694 from Georgetown, Guyana (GEO) to JFK was diverted to Bridgetown, Barbados (BGI) on Sunday. During the delay, the packed refreshments that main cabin guests would normally get on this trip were distributed. Because American does not have a dedicated caterer at BGI, the replacement aircraft for the BGI-JFK trip was catered by a local airport restaurant.
We regret for the interruption to our clients’ flights and appreciate our staff members’ efforts to guarantee that they got a meal.
I catered an American Airlines Boeing 757 from within the Seattle airport almost ten years ago. Our aircraft had technical problems on a charter trip (“oneworld MegaDO”). To make space for more booze, all of the catering had been depleted (and because the original plan had been for everyone on the flight to get full business class meals, which took took long). There were packed snacks for everyone at the gate, but we needed food due to the delay and beverages on the ground.
During the wait, we drank the plane dry and plundered neighboring planes. To collect more, a tug was sent to the airport’s outskirts. In quest of food, I entered the terminal. First-year students received personal pizzas, and I persuaded the bagel store to give us all of their sandwiches (which meant they’d have to stay late the following day to prepare for the next day). The station manager took his corporate credit card out of his wallet. American proves once again that a full aircraft can be catered on the spot from eateries inside the airport!
