American Express doubles the initial bonus points of the Business Gold Card and adds $300 incredits.

I get paid for the content and the many links of this blog. Citibank is an advertising partner of this site, as are American Express, Chase, Barclays and Capital One. All opinions expressed in this post are my own and have not been reviewed, approved or endorsed by my advertisers. I don’t write on every available credit card. Instead, I focus on miles, points, and cashback (and the currencies that can be converted into those same cards). The general terms and conditions apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page.

American Express has doubled the initial bonus points for the American Express® Business Gold card from 35,000 to 70,000 bonus points. In addition, you can now get $300 credits for new accounts.

Here is a limited time offer:

  • 70,000 Enrollment Points after spending $10,000 on eligible purchases within 3 months of joining the program.
  • Earn up to $300 per reference period for advertising and shipping in the United States. Conditions apply and there is a $150 limit to spend in each category.

The annual fee of $295 for the first year can only be covered by billing credits (see Fees and Expenses). And that doesn’t include membership points. I estimate the membership fee at 1.8 cents each, for a value of $70,000 to $1,260, thanks largely to the wide selection of transfer partners, many of whom offer exceptional value:

  • Star Alliance: Planes, ANA, Singapore, Avianca.
  • on Earth: AsiaMiles, British Airways, Iberia, Qantas.
  • SkyTeam: Aeromexico, Alitalia, Air France KLM, Delta
  • Bad match: Etihad, Emirates, Hawaii, JetBlue, Aer Lingus, Virgin Atlantic.
  • Hotels: Choice, Hilton, Marriott.

The card is also very effective at earning points all the time, as you earn 4x points per dollar spent in the two categories where you spend the most each month: Airline tickets, purchased directly from airlines; U.S. purchases for advertising in selected media; U.S. purchases from gas stations; U.S. purchases for shipping; U.S. purchases of computer hardware, software, and cloud computing, directly from selected vendors. (This amount is available for the first $150,000. (This amount is available for the first $150,000 of combined purchases in these two categories per calendar year, subject to conditions).
