The Norwegian Escape was supposed to sail from Miami, Florida on April 28th until May 8th. It’s been delayed due to ongoing repairs and the cruise line has no plans

The “where is the norwegian escape right now” is a cruise that has been canceled due to ongoing repairs. The ship’s next stop will be in Miami, Florida.

Norwegian Escape has been forced to postpone yet another 7-night cruise as the ship continues to be repaired after her March 14 aground in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. This brings the total number of trips canceled for the vessel to five, including the one that was curtailed due to the incident.

Another Sailing Has Been Cancelled; Alternative Sailings Have Been Provided

The scheduled April 9 departure of Norwegian Escape will not be feasible due to ship repairs that have not yet been completed, as informed by booked passengers and travel partners today. The email, signed by Katty Byrd, Senior Vice President of Guest Services, is almost similar to prior emails canceling past cruises, with the exception of the sailing dates.

“We regret to tell you that the repairs aboard Norwegian Escape will take longer than anticipated, and as a consequence, your travel onboard Norwegian Escape on April 9, 2022, has been canceled,” the letter said.

Guests have two compensation alternatives, as with past cancellations: a substitute voyage that is still sailing this weekend with a 100 percent Future Cruise Credit (FCC), or a full refund plus a 50 percent FCC.

Sailings on Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Breakaway, or Norwegian Encore are some of the other options. Each will depart from a separate embarkation location, with three of the ships – Breakaway, Dawn, and Encore – departing one day later than the now-cancelled Norwegian Escape trip.

The Norwegian Escape was scheduled to travel from Port Canaveral to Cozumel, Mexico, Ohio Rios, Jamaica, and Great Stirrup Cay, Norwegian Cruise Line’s own island in the Bahamas.

Norwegian Joy, Norwegian Dawn, and Norwegian Breakaway will still visit Cozumel, and Norwegian Encore will still visit Great Stirrup Cay, but none of the substitute sailings will visit the same ports as Norwegian Escape’s scheduled itinerary. The alternate cruises all visit four ports of call, although the Norwegian Escape’s original itinerary only included three.

Guests Must Take Quick Action

The alternate sailings have limited space and will be capacity-controlled, so interested visitors should act immediately to secure their reservations. Although the Norwegian Cruise Line personnel will try its utmost to match cabin categories for each reservation, the email warns that the “initial category secured may not be available.”

Guests who want to rebook for a different trip this weekend must call Norwegian Cruise Line by 9 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 to make their selection.

There will be no penalties associated with switching to the new reservation, and Norwegian Cruise Line will also rebook air arrangements for passengers who booked their flights via the cruise line. Guests who booked independent air travel should contact their airline or travel agency to make modifications and, if necessary, seek compensation via their travel protection provider.

Norwegian Escape, like Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Encore, is a Breakaway-Plus ship. Norwegian Breakaway is a Breakaway-class vessel that is somewhat smaller, while Norwegian Dawn is a Dawn-class vessel that is substantially smaller.

Guests who do not contact Norwegian Cruise Line by the deadline will get a full refund plus a 50% FCC that will be applied to their Latitudes account. The new FCC will be available beginning April 18, 2022, and will be valid until April 18, 2023, for sailings departing no later than April 18, 2023.

When Will the Repairs Be Completed?

The cruise company has not offered a schedule for when the repairs on the Norwegian Escape are expected to be completed, nor has it released specifics on the nature of the repairs.

Following the event, the ship’s hull was discovered to be damaged, and it was returned to Port Canaveral, where she is now parked and awaiting repairs.

In the interim, Norwegian Cruise Line is canceling cruises one at a time in order to get Norwegian Escape back in operation as quickly as possible for customers.

The ship will only leave Port Canaveral for one more seven-night voyage on April 16. The ship will then sail to New York before heading to Rome for the summer and autumn seasons in the Mediterranean.
