Another Holland America Ship Resumes Service From Port Everglades

At Port Everglades, Holland America’s ship Zaandam resumed cruising today, leaving just one more vessel before the complete fleet is back in operation.

Guests boarded the ship for a nine-day Atlantic Coast voyage to Montreal, Canada, with the ship sailing through October across Canada and New England.

Holland America organized a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open embarkation at the terminal to honor the milestone, which was attended by the ship’s captain, officers, and flag-waving crew members.

“We are happy to have practically our whole fleet back in operation, as well as to be returning to Canada and New England after two years away from this wonderful cruising location,” said Gus Antorcha, president of Holland America Line.

“We’re happy to have Zaandam back in service with an incredible staff ready to provide our passengers with a fantastic cruise experience,” said the captain.

Following the east coast repositioning trip, Zaandam will spend the summer and early autumn operating Canada and New England cruises between Boston and Montreal.

The ship will depart Boston on July 9 on the 35-day Voyage of the Vikings itinerary, which retraces the footsteps of historical explorers with stops in Canada, Greenland, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, and the Netherlands.

On October 10, Zaandam will launch guests on a 71-day Grand Africa Voyage that includes 25 ports of call, four overnights, and various safari possibilities.

The ship will spend the holidays in the Caribbean after the Grand Africa Voyage and then provide a series of Panama Canal transits. Zaandam will return to Canada and New England next spring.

Eurodam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Noordam, Oosterdam, Rotterdam, and Zuiderdam have all returned to service since Holland America resumed sailing in July 2021.

The Dutch government has chartered the Volendam, which is moored in Rotterdam to shelter Ukrainian migrants.

The complete relaunch of Holland America is expected on June 12, when the Westerdam takes sail from Seattle, Washington.
