Tenerife is a small island in the Canary Islands, lying off the northwest coast of Africa. This beautiful island got its name from the word “tenere”, which means “to hold”. The island has a mild climate, a long coastline of sandy beaches, low mountains, a central plain, and a beautiful coastline, where the sea and the land meet.

When you think of Spain, it’s hard to imagine it’s all beaches and mountains, but that’s exactly what you will find in Tenerife, the fourth largest island of the Canary Islands. Surrounded by the Caribbean Sea, it’s still part of the European continent, making it one of the most visited destinations in Spain.

We all have that dream of visiting Tenerife, somewhere in the Caribbean, and staying in one of the most beautiful villas Tenerife has to offer. Well, now it’s possible to stay right in the middle of the most beautiful place in Tenerife, and enjoy all the facilities and services that the area has to offer.

Located in Spain’s Canary Islands archipelago, Tenerife is a destination of choice for travellers of all kinds. Many people think it’s a place to sit by the pool in a tourist resort with a 24-hour buffet, but it actually has much more to offer. Tenerife has a lot to offer, as well as an incredible variety of landscapes. Each part of the island is different, so it makes sense that it attracts different types of travelers. If you’re planning a trip to Tenerife but don’t know where to stay on the island, this guide is for you! In this article I have listed the best places to stay in Tenerife, based on their main attractions and for whom. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing beach holiday, an active trek or a beach party, this guide will show you the best places to stay in Tenerife!   word-image-12024 Playa de las Teresitas on Tenerife

Best area to live in in Tenerife

Choosing the best accommodation in Tenerife ultimately depends on your personal interests and the type of holiday you are looking for. What I like most about Tenerife is the diversity of the island, which offers many different landscapes and activities. Tenerife is ideal for lovers of the outdoors, but there is also plenty to do. You can easily spend a week on Tenerife hiking, water sports, relaxing on the beach or exploring beautiful colonial towns. Tenerife’s weather also varies greatly from region to region, which should be taken into account when planning your accommodation.   word-image-12025 Enjoy the view while walking to Semaforo Igueste.

Tenerife Weather

Tenerife’s climate is generally mild and pleasant all year round, although there are big differences between the different parts of the island. Temperatures vary between 20°C and 30°C during the hot summer months and between 14°C and 20°C during the winter months. But since the island sits between sea level and 3,700 metres on the Teide volcano, you can expect an even wider range in Tenerife’s mountainous regions. In the south the weather is generally warmer and sunnier, while in the north it is colder and more often cloudy. So, if you are looking for a beach holiday, consider the south of Tenerife. Therefore, most of the major tourist resorts are located in the south of the island, because that’s where the travelers come to enjoy the European winter sun. In addition to the varied entertainment and landscape, the different microclimates of the island should also be taken into account when choosing a place to stay.   word-image-12026 Beautiful sunset over the hills and the south coast of Tenerife.

Where to stay in Tenerife to enjoy the nightlife

Las Americas

I lived in Tenerife for over two months and spent most of that time in Las Americas. Las Americas is an area that lies between Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje and is ideally located for easy access to both. This is one of the most touristy and somewhat trashy parts of the island, with lots of pubs, bars and huge apartment complexes. Most people who stay here are young travelers, usually looking for a cheap and fun night out. But don’t let that discourage you from staying in Las Americas! Personally, I really enjoyed living here because I enjoyed going out occasionally, going to the beach and learning to surf. Las Americas is also one of the best surfing spots in Tenerife, so you’ll find lots of great surf spots there. I loved being here and then going to other parts of the island for hikes and other adventures. Here you will find Las Americas accommodation options to suit all budgets.   word-image-12027 I surf in Las Americas, Tenerife Budget: Banana Surf House – This beautiful surf house is perfect for anyone looking for a comfortable vacation in a great location without breaking the bank. There is also a huge roof terrace with beautiful views of the sea. Click here to book your stay at Banana Surf House! Intermediary: Residence El Dorado – I stayed in an apartment in this residence for the first two months of my stay in Tenerife and loved every day. My apartment was spacious, well located (close to the beach and supermarket) and had a great view of the sea and sunset. I highly recommend it. Best family holiday destination in Tenerife

Costa Adeje

If you are coming to Tenerife for a family holiday, Costa Adeje is the perfect place to stay. Costa Adeje is located south of Tenerife, along the coast of Las Americas and has a similar climate. Generally, the weather is warm and sunny, which is ideal for families who want to enjoy a beach holiday. Although it is close to Tenerife’s youth scene, Costa Adeje has a very different vibe. Costa Adeje is both a quiet and lively resort. There are still plenty of bars and restaurants here, but they are usually more luxurious than the pubs in Los Cristianos. In Costa Adeje you can enjoy a quiet family holiday away from the chaos and festivities of the neighbouring resorts. The architecture and accommodation are also a little different, and you’ll find nicer apartments and hotels that are more suitable for larger families. I’ve listed some lodging options below for all budgets.   word-image-12029 Las Rocas Beach Club in Costa Adeje, Tenerife. Budget: Apartamentos Tinerfe Garden – These apartments are ideal for families who want to relax in a quiet environment and not break the bank. The hotel has a huge pool for children and is very well located, close to all the attractions of Adeje. Click here to book your stay at Apartamentos Tinerfe Garden! Intermediary: Aparthotel Ponderosa – I stayed in an apartment at the Ponderosa residence for a month and I highly recommend it. Located on the outskirts of Los Cristianos, the 3 bedroom apartment has huge roof terraces that will make your stay here magical. Click here to book your stay at Apart Hotel Ponderosa! Luxury: Hotel Riu Palace Tenerife – This hotel is considered one of the best in the south of Tenerife, and it’s not hard to see why. El Medano is a smaller, quieter resort with plenty of bars and restaurants and a vibrant digital nomad community. It is ideal for those looking for a more compact and silent reality. El Medano is also a place for windsurfing and kite surfing. There is always a strong breeze on the local beaches, which is perfect for those who love active water sports! San Cristobal de La Laguna

San Cristóbal de La Laguna, also known as La Laguna, is a city in the northern part of the island. The historic centre of the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999 and impresses with its beautiful colonial architecture. While the town itself is undoubtedly beautiful and well worth a visit, it is its location that makes it an ideal place to stay for backpackers on Tenerife. It is located in the north of the island and occupies a strategic position near Anaga and Teide. The Anaga Rural Park and the Teide National Park offer some of the best hiking in Tenerife. From the rugged green coastline reminiscent of Jurassic Park to the lunar-like volcanic landscape, you can easily explore both. A walk through these beautiful landscapes is a must on every Spaniard’s wish list! Remember that temperatures in La Laguna are much lower than in the south, so keep that in mind when choosing where to stay! Other interesting places to stay in Tenerife

Besides the main tourist destinations and cities of Tenerife, there are many other places to stay on the island. These places are often visited during day trips to the island, but if you’re looking for a truly unique getaway, they can be a great place to stay.

Arona – Hotel Rural La Correa Del Almendro

Arona is a mountain village 15 minutes from Las Americas. It is perfect for those who want to be close to the beaches and parties of Las Americas without being in the chaos of it all. Here you can enjoy a quiet and relaxing holiday in the mountains, with easy access to mountain walks and beaches. After two months in Las Americas, I spent a night at the rural hotel La Correa Del Almendro and it was a perfect weekend. This hotel is set in a traditional Canary barn from the 1720s. It retains its wilderness feel, but has modern facilities, such as a swimming pool. They also have a bubble hotel for those looking for something truly unique. The Ritz-Carlton, Abama

In terms of location, this hotel is a bit far from everything, but when you’re right on one of the best beaches on the island, you don’t need much else. This luxury hotel features iconic pink architecture, multiple resort pools, a fitness center, on-site restaurants and much more. Las Galletas

Las Galetas is a small town 15 minutes from Las Americas. This is another great spot for those who want to be close to the fun nightlife without being in the heart and chaos of it all. My girlfriend stayed in a beautiful AirBnb in Las Galletas for a month, and she loved every minute of her stay in this beautiful bungalow. The quiet courtyard is perfect for telecommuters or even couples looking for a secluded place to relax.   word-image-12039 The courtyard and AirBnb bungalow where my friend stayed in Las Galletas, Tenerife.

Masca – Casa Berna

Muska is a small mountain village with only 99 inhabitants. Originally a Guanche settlement, the village is surrounded by picturesque mountains, making it one of the most visited attractions on the island. To get to Masca, you have to take a long and winding mountain road. Therefore, this place is only recommended for those who have already seen the main attractions of Tenerife and want to spend a few nights in a quiet, mountain retreat. The town is very small and there are not many places to stay. With its rustic atmosphere and beautiful views, Casa Berna is one of the most popular accommodations in Masca.
