After a devastating fire on board in February, U.S. based Carnival Cruise Lines is back in business. The company, the largest provider of family-oriented cruises in America, had shut down operations in the wake of the fire.

Carnival Cruise Line has officially restarted its operations, according to a company press release issued today. The cruise line, which was shut down on Sunday, November 11th, 2016, has resumed its schedule of cruises, which departed today from Pier 90 at Port of Long Beach.. With the Carnival Panorama cruise ship departing from Long Beach, Carnival Cruise Line resumes operations. The ship is also the first to resume sailings out of California since the ban of cruise travel began in March 2020.

Carnival Panorama Returns to California Sailings

The Carnival cruise ship has resumed service from the cruise port in Long Beach, California. It’s been a long 17 months since the cruise line brought the fun back to California, but the day has finally here as Carnival Panorama becomes the fleet’s eighth ship to begin operations.

To commemorate the significant stride forward, Carnival Cruise Line conducted a “Back to Fun” ribbon-cutting ceremony at the terminal. Carnival President Christine Duffy and Carnival Panorama Captain Luca Lazzarino were in attendance.

“We’re delighted that Carnival Panorama is resuming service as the first cruise ship to sail from California,” added Duffy. “We’ve put in place a number of procedures on board to keep our passengers, crew, and the places we visit safe and healthy. We’d like to express our gratitude to our Long Beach partners and local authorities for collaborating with us to bring our cruise operations back to Southern California. We’re ready to provide our visitors with a once-in-a-lifetime trip while also helping the local economy.”

The third Vista-class ship is leaving the harbor for a seven-day cruise around the Mexican Riviera. The cruise departs about 4:30 p.m. local time and includes three sea days as well as visits to the Mexican ports of Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas. On Saturday, August 28, 2021, Carnival Panorama will come home to finish its maiden restart trip.

The Carnival cruise ship is operating with procedures in place to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members. This includes the new criteria for fully vaccinated visitors who must additionally provide evidence of a COVID-19 test result that is negative. Carnival ships are currently cruising at around 70% capacity.

With three ships stationed on the West Coast, Carnival Cruise Line is the number one operator. Under normal conditions, the cruise company would depart from the Port of Long Beach on 3- to 15-day trips to Mexico and Hawaii.

Carnival Miracle will begin its short program from Long Beach in September, after having previously resumed operations operating Alaska trips out of Seattle, Washington. Carnival Radiance will make its premiere in Southern California later this year after undergoing a makeover in Cadiz, Spain.

At 133,500 gross tonnage, Carnival Panorama is one of the fleet’s newest ships and the third of the Vista-class. The ship, which has a capacity of 4,008 guests at double occupancy, began operation in December 2019.

The Carnival Glory, departing from New Orleans on September 5, 2021, will be the next Carnival cruise ship to resume sailings.
