The Carnival Horizon will stop at the Amber Cove which is located on Amber Reef on Amber Cove, Amber Reef, Family Islands, Antigua & Barbuda. The ship will be in the area September 21st through the 23rd, 2016.

At the center of it all, Carnival Horizon. As I explored the deck, I almost felt like I was stepping into a different world. Around every corner was a new experience; every deck a new adventure. At the end of the day, no one is going to tell me that my pictures do not matter. My camera does not need to be perfect. The only thing I need to do is capture the moments and show the world who I am. I can do this. I know I can. I will continue to share the images I take and the stories that I hear.

It’s day 3 of our time at Carnival Horizon and we have truly taken to the ship. We have all been able to get comfortable with the surroundings and are now acclimating to the new routine. Our first day had limited time at sea, so we were able to visit all of the ports on the cruise ship. We visited the Amber Cove area of Cozumel with the Captain giving us a few hours to explore. We started our tour off at the Cozumel Zoo, which allowed us to see the scorpions, iguanas, and a few tortoises. The zoo also had many snakes and birds. We then walked to the Cayo Ventana Marine Reserve just a few minutes away. The reserve. Read more about grand turk and let us know what you think.

While the following was written during the Carnival Horizon sailing on July 18, it took some time to go through the hundreds of pictures I collected and decide which ones to use for this unusual type of trip report.

I’m not sure why, but when we sailed into Amber Cove this morning, I couldn’t help but think of the moments in King Kong where the ship arrives at Skull Island.

My travel agent had planned for her customers to spend the day in the Grand Cabana on my previous trip on the Horizon – yep, just two weeks before this one (pics of which can be found here).

Unfortunately, this time we had to make do with a plain ol’ cabana… which was still a fantastic way to spend the day.

I’ve already said that I’m not a big fan of the beach. However, there is a significant difference between lying on a lounger in the blazing sun with a swarm of other people surrounding you and living in a cabana.

You can always go inside if you grow bored of gazing at the water or if it gets too hot. I’ve lived in flats that weren’t as good as this one.

Do you want to know where the cabanas are in relation to the rest of Amber Cove? Here’s a view from above.

I eventually walked about Amber Cove for a while, taking in the sights and noises. The big pools are where the majority of the action takes place.

We had food brought to the cabana (there are a lot of choices, but they’re very inexpensive) and stayed until the very last minute.

I returned to the ship and proceeded to the aft for sail away. And I discovered something when going through the photos I shot of that late-afternoon departure.

I’m a little fascinated with photographing the pilot boats. You know, the tiny ships that transport a pilot to and from the ship in order for him to assist the vessel in entering and exiting the port.

Some individuals travel to Disney World and snap photos of Cinderella Castle no matter how many times they’ve visited. They’ve already taken hundreds of pictures, yet they still feel driven to snap more. That’s myself with a couple of pilot boats.

This following image should definitely come with a disclaimer, since it may likely upset some cruisers. I know it bothered me when I went to Guy’s Burger Joint, desperate for a fix, and was met with this obnoxious sign.

I’m sure you understand my anguish. But, being the kind of person who pulls himself up by his bootstraps and finds a way to keep going, even in the face of adversity, I returned to the Seafood Shack and buried my grief in butter and crab legs.

What’s for dessert? Soft-serve ice cream on a teeny-tiny cone: what could be better? I may or may not have eaten more than one, but calories don’t count on vacation, right?

Tomorrow is our second (of two) sea days, which means there will be more food photos and maybe a few alcoholic drinks.

But since the picture above is of ice cream, let me leave you with this bit of info: On Mardi Gras, the new ship joining the fleet in just a few days (and on which I’ll be enjoying her maiden voyage), there’s a soft serve machine just steps away from Guy’s Pig & Anchor Smokehouse | Brewhouse… meaning there will be two different places to get soft serve.

And, sure, I’ll check them out while aboard since there are no boundaries to how far I’ll go (or how much I’ll eat) to keep you up to date.

Until the next day…

Here’s my 3rd day journey: Amber Cove, Belize! This day I woke up at 6:30 AM to catch a flight back to San Pedro. When I arrived at the airport I dropped my bag in a taxi and we were off. We first stopped at the side of the road so that we could take some pictures. The taxi driver was looking at me and my surroundings. He turned on a music station and I was listening to a song called “Caribbean Sunrise” by the first group, The Platters. The morning was cool and the air was fresh. I’ve never seen a place like this before. The colors, the trees, the water, the mountains and the people were all new to me. We continued.
