Carnival will be returning to the Gulf of Mexico next year for the first time since the massive oil spill in 2010, with the cruise ship company building seven new ships to replace some of the older ones. Carnival Cruise Line announced plans for seven additional ships to sail from a range of ports, including Baltimore, New Orleans, and Mobile, as part of their gradual but steady return to operation of their fleet.
At the same time, the business said that three ships would have their return dates pushed back, resulting in additional cancellations for certain cruisers.
Which Ships Are Departing From Which Ports?
With the return of Carnival Horizon from Miami, as well as Carnival Vista and Carnival Breeze sailing from Galveston, the line has already had a lot of success. In the near future, Carnival Miracle will depart Seattle for Alaska on July 27, and the line’s newest ship, Mardi Gras is a carnival that takes place every year in New Orleans., will depart Port Canaveral on July 31 for her much-anticipated inaugural trip.
Now comes news that many more ships will begin sailing from different locations in September and October. This aligns with Carnival Corporation’s goal of having their full fleet operational by spring 2022. (Carnival Corporation is Carnival Cruise Line’s parent business.)

The September returns, according to Carnival, will include:
- Carnival Pride departs from Baltimore, Maryland on itineraries to the Eastern Caribbean and the Bahamas.
- Carnival Glory, based in New Orleans, Louisiana, sails Eastern and Western itineraries.
- Carnival Dream, based in Galveston, Texas, sails Eastern and Western itineraries.
In October, four additional ships will join the fleet, with Carnival Miracle having just moved to Long Beach, California. The following ships will be returning to service at that time:
- Carnival Elation, based in Port Canaveral, Florida, sails Eastern Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries.
- Carnival Freedom departs Miami, Florida on Eastern and Southern itineraries.
- Carnival Sensation, based in Mobile, Alabama, sails Western Caribbean itineraries.
- From Miami, Florida, the Carnival Conquest sails to the Eastern Caribbean and the Bahamas.
Jacksonville, Florida’s Carnival Elation
Other ships’ arrivals are being postponed.
Carnival has extended its break in activities for Carnival Pride from Baltimore until September 5, Carnival Dream from Galveston through September 11, Carnival Conquest from Miami through October 4, and Carnival Sensation from Mobile through October 16.
Carnival Ecstasy, Carnival Liberty, and Carnival Sunshine’s planned returns will also be postponed. Sailings from Jacksonville, Florida, Port Canaveral, Florida, and Charleston, South Carolina are now scheduled to resume in November.
A three-night Carnival Miracle cruise departing from Long Beach on September 24 has also been canceled. The ship is now scheduled to leave Long Beach on September 27.
