The trade groups did not make much progress after asking the CDC to drop its conditional shipping offer (CNO) framework.

In recent days, the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) and the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) issued statements urging the CDC to allow cruise lines to resume operations as early as Jan. 1. July, but the CDC announced that it would comply with the 1. November 2021.

The 30th. In October 2020, the CDC released the framework for conditional dispatch orders (CSOs), which will remain in effect until Nov. 1, 2021, the CDC said in a statement. The return to passenger transport is a phased approach to reduce the risk of spreading COWID-19. The details of the next phase of the CSO are currently being discussed by the various agencies.

Current trend

The slow transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2 aroused the ire of cruise lines that began sailing from alternative destinations.

It is interesting that [the CSO] is calling for a four-phase process and four months later we are still in phase one and don’t know what phase two requires, said Richard Fain, chief executive of Royal Caribbean. Science is ahead of the conventional order without the spin. Last October, we thought this was a very positive move by the CDC, but now it’s here. We, along with our Healthy Sail Panel and others in the industry, believe that given the dramatic changes we have seen in three areas – vaccination, testing and contact tracing – it is time to move on. … It is time to acknowledge the evolution of medical science and move forward.

It is not only travel industry organizations and cruise lines that are asking for more information on how the cruise industry can develop. Lawmakers are also beginning to question the KDP’s progress on the issue.

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) was frustrated at a hearing this week with CDC Director Rochelle Walenski when she found the CDC’s guidance on cruises unclear and asked how Alaska businesses that depend on cruises will know what to expect this summer.

Are they going to open, or are they going to realize that this is going to be the second season of the year where they have nothing, and are they going to know if they should close their business now? Murkowski asked.

Many cruise lines are now finding ways to operate within CDC guidelines and offer cruises to consumers. Some companies are operating their ships outside the Caribbean this summer, opting for the Bahamas.
