Celebrity Cruises has announced that their Alaska sailings will resume with new dates starting in July. The cruise line has been on a cruise hiatus since November 2015, after running into technical problems with the ship and its operations in the state.

2014 marked the first departure of the Celebrity Cruises Alaska sailing since it was canceled in 2013, and when it’s scheduled to sail again it will be a whole new ship with a totally different look and feel. The new Celebrity Big Apple will be built and operated by Cunard, based on the Queen Elizabeth. Celebrity Cruises has confirmed that the ship will make its first voyage from New York City on December 31, 2017, and will sail four to six sailings annually to destinations in Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, and Mexico.

Celebrity Cruises says that it has restarted sailings to Alaska for the first time in nearly two years, but it will not be offering any cruises this year to its first-class guests. The company said that it would provide a new itinerary for its first-class guests next fall, but it would not be ready until then.. Read more about us cruises and let us know what you think.

Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Millennium cruise ship, located in Seattle, Washington, begins sailings to Alaska today. It comes after an almost two-year absence for the cruise company from the area. The ship is also the second in the fleet to resume operating from the United States, after Celebrity Edge, which resumed sailing from Florida in late June.

The Celebrity Millennium is on its way to Alaska.

It’s been a long road to get here, but cruise ships are beginning to visit Alaska once again. Celebrity Millennium is one of those ships, leaving Seattle today on a seven-night trip that includes stops at Ketchikan, Endicott Arm, and Dawes Glacier, as well as Juneau. The ship will embark on 11 roundtrip voyages between now and early October 2021.

Celebrity Cruises President and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo said:

“It’s really wonderful to be back in Alaska today, supporting local culture and sharing its breathtaking beauty with our visitors. It is really worthy of its bucket-list status, and its wonderful people and natural beauty have always had a particular place in my heart.”

“It is a pleasure to be bringing tourism and the cruise industry back to Alaska, and it is critical for the economic recovery of many vital Alaskan towns. I am grateful to all of the political leaders who saw the need and worked to restore their livelihoods.”

Celebrity Millennium’s Ports of Call

The cruise ship will visit numerous ports in Alaska, as well as the region’s famously beautiful scenery. The following is the route that the ship will take:

  • Ketchikan — Located at the southernmost point of Alaska’s renowned Inside Passage, it is the finest place to go flightseeing in the Misty Fjords.
  • Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier — Guests are surrounded by granite cliffs, mountain valleys, and gushing waterfalls as they cruise through this 30-mile stretch before seeing the 600-foot-tall and half-mile-wide Dawes Glacier. The ship makes a complete circle here, giving views of this amazing work of nature to passengers on both sides of the ship; it is one of cruising’s must-see attractions.
  • Juneau — The Mendenhall Glacier and Mt. Roberts are located in this lively capital city, which has more hiking trails than highways.
  • Skagway — The White Pass Railway allows tourists to experience the Yukon, which was once the epicenter of the Gold Rush.
  • Icy Strait Point is a port of adventure and culture on Chichagof Island, just outside the town of Hoonah, offering a peek of life in Alaska’s biggest Native Tlingit community.

A crowded cruise ship!

The Celebrity Millennium has been a busy ship for the cruise line, since she was the first in the fleet to return to North American service. When she began sailings on June 5, 2021, the ship was homeported for the first time in the Eastern Caribbean, at St. Maarten.

The ship is the first to return to North America and Alaska, as well as the second to return from the United States; it follows Celebrity Edge, which was the first to return to the United States when she left from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on June 26.

The Celebrity Millennium is sailing in Alaska with all crew members completely vaccinated, after a refit in 2019 as part of the cruise line’s $500 million fleetwide improvement effort. Beginning August 1, all U.S. visitors aged 16 and above must be properly vaccinated, which will be changed to ages 12 and up.
