Chase has launched a new Sapphire Reserve card, and it offers a lot of perks that most people will find useful. But in addition to that, the card also offers a $300 annual travel credit if you spend $4,500 each calendar year on travel purchases. If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, you can get the same credit. But the new card comes with an even better benefit: you can transfer the $300 annual travel credit that comes with the card to your Sapphire Reserve (assuming you have the Sapphire Reserve) if you transfer your credit card balance from your old card to your new card.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred card is going to get a boost in earning starting on June 20, when the card becomes Chase Sapphire Reserve. Chase has decided to add a $300 annual spending limit for the card. Previously, that was $250. The card also will be eligible for an annual $300 airline fee credit each year. Also, cardholders will get the standard perks of $300 credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck for the first year.

As part of the renewal process for their credit cards, Chase has decreased the ratio of rewards points needed to earn a free night’s stay at a Category 1 hotel to 10:1, from 14:1. What does this mean for credit card holders? They can earn rewards points faster and more easily on Chase Sapphire Preferred cards, which can earn a sign up bonus up to 50,000 points when you make a qualifying purchase in the first three months.. Sapphire Cards Get Better Earnings and New Benefits from Chase

on August 10, 2021 by Gary Leff

I am compensated for the content and many links on my site. Citibank, American Express, Chase, Barclays, and Capital One are all advertising partners on this site. My advertising partners have not reviewed, approved, or endorsed any of the opinions expressed in this post. I don’t write about all credit cards; instead, I concentrate on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). The offers and perks mentioned on this website are subject to the terms.

Chase has upgraded both the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card, which was just a rumor a month ago.

For both current and new cardmembers as of August 16, 2021:

  • Improved earning (5x on travel booked via the Chase Ultimate Rewards site; 3x on dining, certain streaming services, and online groceries excluding Walmart, Target, and wholesale clubs); and a $50 hotel credit per cardmember year for reservations through Ultimate Rewards. In addition, it will get a 10% anniversary bonus on all points earned during the year after payment of the yearly fee – except the first bonus. The card already gets double points when used for travel.
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve® members get a 10 percent bonus on Chase Dining, hotels, and rental cars booked via the Chase travel site, and a 5 percent bonus on air travel booked through the Chase travel portal. On travel and eating, the card already earns quadruple points.

The good news is that they are all additions, not subtractions.

With the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you may receive 100,000 extra points after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first three months of account creation, which is Chase’s greatest offer ever. When you redeem via Chase Ultimate Rewards®, that’s $1,250. The yearly cost for the card is $95 per year.

Chase Sapphire Reserve® offers an initial bonus to earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. The card has a $550 annual fee, and comes with a $300 Annual Travel Credit as reimbursement for travel purchases charged to your card each account anniversary year. Through December 31, 2021, gas station & grocery store purchases will also count towards earning your Travel Credit

Points may be transferred to airline and hotel reward programs using both cards.

  • Airlines: United MileagePlus, British Airways Executive Club, Air France KLM Flying Blue, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub, Emirates Skywards, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub, Emirates Skywards, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
  • World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy, and IHG Rewards Club are some of the hotels available.

It’s wonderful to see both cards improving, and I’m particularly pleased with the rich advertising on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, which is now giving a higher introductory bonus than I’ve ever seen (the best bonus in my opinion in the market now for any card).
