Earlier this year, Chase launched its “Pay yourself back” cardholder benefit, which is powered by the issuer’s “Prime” rewards program. Under the benefit, cardholders are automatically enrolled in a program that lets them “pay themselves back” for eligible travel purchases by applying a 15 percent statement credit on their credit card statement. The issuer calls this a “standard benefit,” which means that it is available to all cardholders who are enrolled in the card’s “Prime” rewards program, and that it is subject to all the same terms that apply to their “Prime” rewards.

If you want to get a lot of value from your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, it’s probably worth it to add some new authorized users. Effective May 20, the “Pay Yourself Back” promotion has been extended for another six months. If you already have the card, you should have gotten an email from Chase. On the other hand, if you’re new to the card, or haven’t had it for a year yet, and you add at least one new user, you’ll earn 50,000 Ultimate Rewards points after you spend $4,000 in the first three months. That’s enough points to redeem for a $625 flight on the Chase travel portal, or a $

I am rewarded for the content and the many links on this blog. Citibank is an advertising partner of this site, as are American Express, Chase, Barclays and Capital One. All opinions expressed in this article are my own and have not been reviewed, approved or endorsed by my advertisers. I’m not going to tell you about all the credit cards out there. Instead, I’m going to focus on miles, points and cashback (and the currency that can be converted into them). The terms and conditions apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page.

Last year, Chase introduced a temporary cash-back feature on some cards, targeting travelers when they’re not on the road. This increased the flexibility of the points and allowed you to use them at a higher rate for some of the day-to-day expenses you probably still had to incur during the global pandemic.

It has become a popular and tempting alternative to using points for paid travel or transferring them to airline or hotel loyalty programs, although I don’t use it myself – I still prefer to save points to transfer to airline miles.

  • Airline: United MileagePlus, British Airways Executive Club, Air France KLM Flying Blue, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub, Emirates Skywards, JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Hotels: World of Hyatt, Marriott Bonvoy, IHG Rewards Club

Last September, Chase announced that members of the Chase Sapphire Preferred® card and the Chase Sapphire Reserve® program would be able to redeem their points by the 30th. April 2021 to be used for purchases at grocery stores, convenience stores and restaurants (including home delivery) and for certain charitable donations.

This deadline was set at 30 June. September 2021 extended, and you can now redeem the annual fee on the card. Annual contributions and charitable categories must be made no later than 31… December 2021.

Chase Sapphire Reserve points cost 1.5 cents each (as when used through the Chase travel portal), and Preferred card points cost 1.25 cents each in these categories.

When I went through my own list of allowable expenses, I saw that the lunch category includes DoorDash and Uber Eats. I don’t know if it’s a canteen or a grocery store, but where I order my coffee beans online also counts. And even a food purchase at the American Airlines Admiral’s Club appears as a credited purchase, for which I can use points at 1.5 cents each. (Purchases will be refunded within 90 days).

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® card currently offers the best first offer ever – 80,000 bonus points after $4,000 in spending on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening, plus a $50 credit for grocery purchases within the first year of account opening.

Chase Sapphire Reserve® also offers the best initial bonus offer since its inception – 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

The most important thing you should know about building good credit is that you’re in complete control of your own financial fate. One of the best ways to build credit is with a secured credit card. The Chase Sapphire Preferred® card is one of the most popular travel rewards credit cards around—and for good reason. It offers 2x points on travel and dining at restaurants and 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases, which is a great deal for people who spend a lot of money on travel and dining out.
