Launched four and a half years ago, the Chase Sapphire Reserve® has revolutionized credit card rewards. But since its introduction, the bonus for new directors has not been increased. So far.
Chase Sapphire Reserve® now offers a bonus that allows you to earn 60,000 bonus points after spending $4,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. It’s a bonus for a bigger point without the big cost.
And the card earns 3 points per dollar spent on travel and dining, after receiving a $300 travel credit – which can also be used for gas station and grocery store purchases until the 31st. December 2021 can be used. A Priority Pass also gives you access to the airport lounge.
This new 60,000 points initial bonus offer is the first time I’ve seen anything over 50,000 points in public since the card had an increased offer at launch. The offer of this card has been around for years, so it’s great that people considering using it can finally get something more.
Chase Sapphire Reserve’s first premium offer
They offer a generous bonus of 60,000 points (after spending $4,000 within 3 months of account opening). There hasn’t been a better deal since the card was introduced in the fall of 2016. And they didn’t raise spending requirements to get the bonus.
Quick rewards for money spent
This card gives you triple points for travel and restaurant visits, which is great for travelers, but also for local restaurateurs. The travel category is also broad:
Vendors in the tourism category include airlines, hotels, motels, timeshare facilities, campgrounds, car rental companies, cruise lines, travel agencies, travel discount websites, and operators of passenger trains, buses, taxis, limousines, ferries, toll bridges and roads, parking lots and garages.
You can use your points and transfer them to various airline and hotel programs, or use your points at 1.5 cents each for all paid travel available on the Ultimate Rewards portal.
- Airline: United MileagePlus, British Airways Executive Club, Air France KLM Flying Blue, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer, Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub, Emirates Skywards, JetBlue TrueBlue
- Hotels: Hyatt World, Marriott Bonvoy, IHG Awards Club
Airport Lounge Priority card
The card includes the Priority Pass Select with unlimited visits (including for 2 guests) as long as the capacity of 1,000 seats in the lounges worldwide is not exceeded. And unlike American Express, Chase doesn’t exclude participating airport restaurants from the benefits.
Priority Pass Select is a card that gives you access to lounges all over the world. You don’t have to belong to an individual recreation program, this program works to have rooms in most places you visit.
Additional cards in your Sapphire Reserve account cost $75, and they are also eligible for Priority Pass. That way, your family members have access to the break room when you’re not with them (and their spending can make your score go up faster).
I especially like all the restaurants in the airport that accept Priority Pass and give you a $28 credit (for you, $28 for a guest) to spend. Priority Pass cards sponsored by American Express do not receive this benefit, but Priority Pass cards sponsored by Chase Sapphire Reserve do.
And it’s not just lounges and restaurants, Minute Suites are a great option at many airports for a private room with a daybed and desk. I have used it a lot in Philadelphia and Charlotte during my stopovers when the American Airlines club is not sufficient. The last salon I visited at the beginning of the pandemic was Minute Suites in Charlotte, and it was a great break when everyone was at their wit’s end in March.
Annual Sapphire booking fee and valuable credits
The card costs $550 a year. It’s similar to the Amex Platinum, but Chase offers a $300 travel credit that you can use to pay for any trip, whether it’s airfare, a hotel, or even just an Uber, while the $200 Amex credit is limited to airfare on any airline you designate for the year. And on the 31st. December 2021, Chase Sapphire Reserve® credit can also be used for gas stations and grocery stores.
Many readers wonder if the card is worth the $250 per year deductible travel credit. Note that you can also use :
- A credit of up to $100 for enrollment in the Global Entry or TSA Pre✓® program.
- Free DashPass subscription to DoorDash after telephone activation on 12/31/21.
- DoorDash loan in 2021 for $60.
Protection of occupants
Citibank and Barclays have removed this protection for their cards in general. American Express now offers a limited number of protections on certain cards. But Chase is the gold standard in travel protection rich rewards cards. Most people overlook them, which is why they can provide rich benefits like these. Those who know about it really benefit from it, while compliance doesn’t cost much for most people.
- Primary Collision Insurance reduces your collision rental coverage, and you get coverage up to $75,000 – so if you damage the car, your own insurance may not even need to know.
- Baggage delay , if your baggage is lost for more than 6 hours, you may be reimbursed up to $100 per day for 5 days, excluding receipts for the purchase of essential items.
- Travel Delay Coverage , if your flight is delayed more than 6 hours – or overnight – you will receive up to $500 per ticket for expenses such as hotel, meals and ground transportation.
- Cancellation or Curtailment of Trip , if it is a one-time trip that you cannot replace, you can still purchase travel insurance, but you can be reimbursed up to $10,000 for trips that are cancelled or interrupted early due to illness, injury or other covered events.
There are other benefits, such as. B. medical evacuation (a reader’s father was reimbursed a quarter of a million dollars in expenses by American Express).
There’s even roadside assistance service that includes towing, a locksmith, gasoline, tire changes or an emergency start up to 4 times a year for up to $50 each.
Additional benefits of Reserve Sapphire cards
In addition to travel protection, there is also purchase and return protection that provides coverage of up to $10,000 for stolen, damaged or lost items within 120 days of purchase with the card and up to $500 per item ($1,000 per year) if you are not satisfied with your purchase and the seller does not return it within 90 days of purchase. (There are some exceptions, such as items purchased overseas, and you must return the item to Chase as part of the claim).
It’s a nice metal card. And that too is Visa Infinite.
To consolidate points from other Chase cards into your Reserve account
Chase offers several cards that offer rewards for different spending categories – including cards with no annual fee. If you do not receive an annual pass, the points on that pass will not convert to airline miles.
However, if you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve card, you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points earned from other cards to your Sapphire Reserve account. These points are then converted into airline or hotel miles and can also be spent on travel directly through the Chase portal – at a premium rate of 1.5 cents per point, which you can only earn with the Sapphire Reserve card.
Who are the replacements for Sapphire?
After the map launched a year later, Chase released some data on Sapphire Reserve members.
Chase Sapphire Reserve Card exit
To qualify for this card, you must have received fewer than 5 new cards in the past 24 months. In other words: Chase Sapphire Reserve is subject to 5/24.
Also, you can only have one Sapphire card at a time. If you do not have a Sapphire or Chase Sapphire Preferred card with an annual fee, you must either decline the card before applying, or apply to replace your existing card with a Reserve.
Chase will only give you a bonus on your Sapphire account once every 48 months. So if your current (or last) Sapphire received a new member bonus less than 48 months ago, you’re not eligible for a bonus this time around.
Judging by the people I see pulling the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, it’s not a difficult product, although some readers have reported difficulties. As a Visa Infinite card, you don’t need to seek approval for a low credit offer. Applying for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card can actually be a good strategy to get the Sapphire Reserve. If you get a Preferred card and then wait a year, you can request a product change to the Reserve card.
