There’s also another Norwegian Escape trip cancellation, new hull art for MSC Cruises’ upcoming mega-ship, Holland America hosting refugees, two NCL boats returning to service, and the CDC’s removal of its Cruise Travel Advisory.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a cruise travel advisory.

On March 30, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States totally lifted its travel advisory caution for cruise ship travel. The danger level was originally placed at Level 2, “moderate,” but the color-coded warning has now been deleted completely.

The removal of this advisory notice demonstrates the cruise lines’ and individual ships’ confidence in their ability to follow health and safety regulations.

While instances have been documented on board ships since U.S. cruise operations started in June 2021, cruise companies have moved fast to implement isolation and quarantine methods to prevent transmission and keep cruise passengers, crew members, and local port populations safe. With the bulk of boats again securely sailing, cruising is making a return.

It also comes little over two weeks after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention downgraded its Cruise Travel Warning from level 3 to level 2. Virgin Voyages, which has seen exceptional demand with reservations up over 120 percent from January to March of this year, has responded to the removal of the warning.

Another Norwegian Escape cruise has been canceled.

After the ship went aground at Puerto Plata on March 14, 2022, a fourth tour for Norwegian Escape has been canceled owing to the necessity for repairs. The cruise operator advised people affected in a letter addressed to booked passengers and travel partners that the scheduled April 2 sailing would no longer take place.

The message is very identical to the one sent out when the Norwegian Escape sailing on March 26 was canceled, and passengers are being given comparable compensation alternatives to make up for their lost voyage. The ship’s repairs took longer than planned, according to NCL.

The ship was scheduled to travel on April 2 on a 7-day itinerary that included stops at Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Great Stirrup Cay — the same itinerary as when the incident happened. That cruise was canceled when the ship went aground, and passengers were brought home, and the ship has been undergoing repairs ever since.

At the meanwhile, the Norwegian Escape is still docked in Port Canaveral for repairs. The nature of the repairs has not been revealed, and there has been no explanation offered as to why the job is taking so long.

Two Norwegian cruise ships are back in the water.

Norwegian Cruise Line has had a busy week, with two ships resuming service. On March 29, the Norwegian Jewel re-entered operation with a 12-day voyage from Panama to San Diego, California. The ship is the first in the fleet to depart from Panama and the 13th to return to duty.

Norwegian Jewel will operate a total of eight Panama Canal roundtrip voyages, ranging in length from eight to ten days, departing from Colón, Panama’s Caribbean coast, and terminating in Panama City, until the end of March 2023.

On March 30, the Norwegian Jade became the first Norwegian Cruise Line cruise ship to set sail for the Mediterranean this year. The ship traveled from Civitavecchia, Italy on a 9-night Greek Islands trip to start off Norwegian Cruise Line’s European season.

Before repositioning to Pireaus, Greece, the Norwegian Trip Line ship will sail one cruise from the Italian cruise capital. Norwegian Jade was the first ship in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet to begin sailings in 2021.

The season for Norwegian Jade in the eastern Mediterranean will extend until the end of November 2022. The ship will next go on an epic 18-day trip down the East African coastline, eventually arriving in Cape Town, South Africa.

The Volendam, a ship owned by Holland America, will be used to house refugees.

The Holland America Line cruise ship Volendam will be repurposed to house Ukrainian migrants in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. As part of an arrangement with the city, the ship will dock in the city for three months to temporarily house 1,500 Ukrainians.

It’s part of the nation’s larger pledge to house 50,000 persons who have left their native country of Ukraine since February 24, 2022.

Those temporarily aboard the Holland America cruise ship will be served three hot meals each day and will be housed in cabins. The refugees will be allowed to utilize the ship’s amenities, such as public areas, exercise centers, internet access, and other necessities.

The Volendam will stay moored at the Merwehaven freight port on the north bank of the Maas River to provide passengers convenient access to the city.

The Holland America ship was scheduled to return to Rotterdam on May 15, 2022, with cruises to Norway, the British Isles, and Iceland. Instead of May 15, the ship will resume passenger service on July 3, 2022.

Mechanical Issues with the Norwegian Dawn

Guests who booked shore trips with Norwegian Cruise Line will have those expenses immediately reimbursed to their onboard accounts, according to the letter.

The nature of Norwegian Dawn’s mechanical problem hasn’t been revealed, although there are a few possibilities. There has been no word on whether the ship’s next sailing, a 7-day cruise that will be similar to the present one, would have any schedule adjustments or other changes.
