Silversea has announced the launch of their new Silver Suite, which includes a 1-bedroom penthouse suite with an ensuite bathroom, a dedicated cabin attendant, and guaranteed wheelchair access to all of their ships. This is important news for customers who may not be able to get around on land, or for those with mobility issues who need transportation to their onboard destinations.
I’m pleased to announce that for the second year in a row, the Norwegian Silversea has been named the best accessible cruise ship in the world! What makes Silversea “accessible”? They have created different rooms that are modified for accessibility for disabled passengers. The suite is one of these rooms where you can enjoy a private suite with an accessible bathroom, yet still have the same overall experience as the non-accessible rooms.

It’s 7:00 a.m. I’m still awake and in bed, but not quite ready to face the world. I’m aboard Silversea’s newest ship, the 596-passenger Silver Moon, cruising around the Greek islands, comfortably cocooned in Silver Suite #931, an accessible cabin.
My bedroom door is closed, but I hear activity and a faint clank from the neighboring living and dining rooms through the door. I know it’s Eno, my attentive suite butler, who’s placing the plates on my dining room table since I booked room service for 7 a.m.
“Good morning,” I say into the dimly lit room. “Good Morning Ms. Young, your coffee and breakfast are ready,” a cheerful voice says through the door. I roll over, re-enter my pillow, and rise five minutes later. Breakfast is waiting for me when I slide open the door between the bedroom and the living/dining space. The day starts now that Eno has gently gone away.

Silversea’s cruises are in the ultra-luxury category; among the line’s main rivals are Seabourn, Regent Seven Seas, and Crystal. Personalized treatment is a trademark of ultra-luxury cruise lines, and Silver Moon is more than capable of providing it.
Eno brought my breakfast – or, if I didn’t order breakfast, my coffee – every morning at 7 a.m. to the table in my dining room Yes, there was an illy coffeemaker with espresso or cappuccino packets in the room, but I like “plain ole” American coffee and many glasses in the morning. While I like the others on occasion, Eno provided my black coffee every morning in a way that was tailored to my requirements rather than the usual.
We’d talk about the day ahead if I was awake when the coffee came. He’d inquire as to what more he might do to assist me. He’d check the mini-refrigerator in the suite credenza to see if it required refilling, and he’d refill the line’s glass water bottles (still, sparkling, or both). Everything about my suite stay was tailored to me. He gave me two of them (not one of each kind of water) since I prefer still water to sparkling. He kept them refreshed at all times.
Eno always said hello and wished me a nice day. He would sometimes come later to hang my finished laundry order in the closet or stack part of the folded clothes on top of the bedroom wardrobe. He’d bring me a bottle of my favorite Sauvignon Blanc, schedule or cancel shore excursions, answer my inquiries at the purser’s desk, make restaurant reservations, and more.
Simply said, the service on Silver Moon was pleasant, anticipatory, and, for the most part, perfect for me (and other members of my party who were also sailing onboard). As both Eno and my maid, Evelyn, expressed, the staff is glad to be back to work after a lengthy pandemic hiatus.
Suites for Dreamy Nights
So, what can you anticipate in terms of accomodation if you go? Because the Silver Moon is an all-suite ship, here’s a quick rundown of what’s available, followed by a discussion of my room, #931, an accessible Silver Suite.
All of the rooms are large and welcoming. The color scheme of the suites is mainly gentle subdued colors with pops of color for accent. Butler service is available in all of the rooms. Overall, I thought my room was well-appointed, with a sense of elegance and flair, and was also “comfortable.”
The 334-square-foot Vista Suites are Silver Moon’s entry-level accommodations, featuring a big picture window, living room area with couch, writing desk, bedroom space with queen-sized bed (or two twins), and marble bathroom. There are additionally three wheelchair accessible Vista Suites with more square footage (#407, #409, and #417). The ship’s Panorama Suites, which also have picture windows and are situated on the ship’s bow, provide 334 square feet of space.
The Classic Veranda Suite, with 387 square feet of space and sliding glass doors, is ideal for individuals looking for a private veranda (including that veranda). Other veranda accommodations are distinguished by their location. Superior Veranda Suites are on the top deck, while Deluxe Veranda Suites are in the middle of the ship, which many passengers prefer.
The Silver Suite is the next tier of accommodations, according to the company, and is usually one of the most popular suites on any of its ships. For those who like sailing in private veranda (or balcony, as I call them) cabins on any line, I would suggest this as a nice “step up.”
There are 34 Silver Suites on Silver Moon, and one of them – #931 – is accessible. During a 10-night Greece trip in late July and early August, I stayed in this room and really liked it. It is well-designed in that respect, since I have some mobility problems.

Stylish & Accessible
Here are my top ten “factoids” for Silver Suite #931, which is available.
1. It features an automated entrance system. Simply touch your key card on a panel in the hallway to unlock the door, which can then be gently pushed open. It will then open completely on its own. The visitor walks in, and the door shuts on its own after about a minute.
2. It has a lot of storage. As you enter the suite, you’ll stroll along a lengthy corridor (wide enough for a wheelchair). A huge cabinet on one side opens to expose enormous, deep shelves. In addition, two narrow hanging closets with lower hanging bars are available. The separate master bedroom has a comparable quantity of storage in the same layout.

My butler also replaced the fresh fruit displayed in a large, curving fruit stand on the dining room table every day. There was also a beautiful orchid plant on the table.
6. Its “heights” have been changed. The huge marble-surfaced desk and separate dining room table in this accessible Silver Suite are both tall enough for a wheelchair to pass below. On each side of the desk are two tiny under-counter drawers for holding papers, cosmetics, or other personal things.
The circular dining room table (a table for four people in terms of size) includes two standard chairs, but it may be set up for one or two additional seats, or one or two wheelchairs, if needed. The closet bars were lower and easier to reach in the two storage spaces (one in the entrance hallway, the other in the master bedroom).
7. The technical aspects of the project went well. The big wall-mounted flat screen TV in the living room offered a wide variety of content, including on-demand movies and TV shows, personal account information, a ship services A-to-Z directory, and a room-service ordering menu. In the bedroom, a second flat-screen TV is likewise wall-mounted and readily visible from the bed.
A tiny leather note holder with a built-in USB port sat on the desk. The phone system functioned properly, and a Bose radio on the desk offered high-quality sound. The unlimited internet plan, which was very essential to me since I was constantly working on a laptop from afar, proved to be quite dependable throughout the trip.
8. It has a colossal master bathroom. To put it bluntly, this master bathroom is enormous. Handrails may be found all around the toilet, bidet, and shower area, providing plenty of space. I liked the walk-in shower since it included a big bench, a rainforest shower head, and a hand-held spraying wand, which was perfect for my knee problems. A wheelchair may easily maneuver into the shower. Water runs down and away, not into the bathroom or bedroom, thanks to good floor drainage grates in many places.
The master bathroom features one wheelchair-accessible sink with little storage surrounding it, however there is a connecting door between it and the suite’s guest half-bathroom (which has its own sink and larger vanity). So I talked with the butler, who told me that the staff would gladly remove one of the loungers and rearrange the table to accommodate a wheelchair user who need a little extra room. That seemed to be a viable option.
I’m sure having an extremely competent and cooperative cleaner and a suite butler has something to do with my attitude toward this room, but I felt so pampered there. I was eager to stow away and remain since I loved the features and room so much!
If you book a Silver Suite, whether accessible or not (I’ve been in normal Silver Suites before), you’ll probably have a good time. It’s a great step up from the deluxe veranda suites, which are very lovely. A Silver Suite, on the other hand, has a sophisticated, condo-like feel to it, with distinct areas that allow you to stretch out further.
I enjoyed sipping a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc on my balcony as I watched passengers return to the ship after a day off in Mykonos or Patmos. It offered a comfortable seat with a soothing atmosphere.
Yes, aboard Silver Moon, you may reserve even higher-level and more spacious rooms (Royal, Grand, or Owner’s Suites). The Owner’s Suites, for example, range in size from 947 to 1,055 square feet, including the private veranda. The Owner’s Suite expands to 1,281-1,389 square feet in a two-bedroom layout with a connected suite.
