In an alarming development for Disney Cruise Line, Disney’s CEO told a shareholders meeting on March 9 that limited cruise operations could resume as early as this fall.

No Disney cruises until fall?

While there has been renewed optimism in recent weeks that cruises will resume, the opposite may be true for Disney Cruise Line. said Disney’s CEO at the company’s virtual annual shareholders meeting on March 9 that it’s possible limited cruise operations could resume by fall.

Bob Chapek, Disney’s CEO, said at the meeting:

We are looking forward to getting our Disney Cruise Line business back on track. As you know, the cruise industry has been hit hard by Covid, and at this time we have no definitive information on when we can reopen our cruise lines.

Frankly, no one knows when cruises will be able to resume, as it all depends on new technical guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC). In other countries, such as B. In the UK, the outlook is more positive with a departure date of the 17th. May 2021.

Chatek continued to speak:

We believe that with a little luck, an increase in vaccinations and the encouraging trends we are seeing, we will be able to have our cruise ships in limited service by the fall, but it all depends on the prevalence of the virus and the vaccination of the general population.

He pointed out that vaccination and awareness can play an important role in how quickly cruises can resume. Even if they get back on the road, it will be with strict restrictions and rules that were enforced at the Disney parks.

What is the probability that cruises will resume in June?

Most US cruise lines are now planning to resume cruising in June. Just yesterday, seven cruise lines extended the suspension, including Royal Caribbean until May 2021.

We already know that it will take about 90 days for cruise lines to resume their first scheduled cruises under the conditional order structure.

Cruise lines must give the DCC 30 days’ notice of test trips. They must also apply for a conditional travel certificate 60 days before the start of the regular trip. The multiplicity of timetables and procedures only adds to the delay.

Currently, there are 82 days left until the 1st. June 2021, so the answer is obvious! We’ll hear from the CDC soon. The hope is to get concrete data so that cruise lines, including Disney, can revitalize the cruise industry. By the fall, dates may be considered if the situation remains unchanged.

Current suspension Disney Cruise

For now, we know that Disney Cruise Line has suspended operations until May 2021. Cruise Hive first noted that the cruise line’s May Sail on 19. February from their website. However, the announcement was not made until almost a week later.

The suspension applies to all Disney cruise ships, but longer for the Disney Magic – until the 10th. August 2021.
