IL Tornabuoni is officially opening its doors on September 21st, according to a recent article published by Florence.com. This luxury hotel is the latest addition to the luxury hotel market in Florence. IL Tornabuoni joins other luxury hotels like the Luxury Collection Firenze, Hotel Brunelleschi, and the Four Seasons. The article also states that IL Tornabuoni has hired a new General Manager, Alessandro Buonocore. Buonocore has worked at luxury hotels in Florence before and has extensive knowledge of the culture and tourism industry in Florence.
IL Tornabuoni, the U.S. debut of an iconic Tuscan brand, will open Sept. 7 in the former Madison’s store at 501 Madison Ave. IL Tornabuoni brings the Italian heritage and service of the internationally renowned Italian luxury hotel, Relais & Chateaux’s Tornabuoni Art Hotel, to the world-renowned fashion capital of Florence.
IL Tornabuoni, a new luxury property from AG Hotels, opens its doors on 1. September 2021 in Florence, Italy. The hotel is located in Via Tornabuoni, in the Palazzo Minerbetti, a historic building dating back to the 12th century. It will offer 62 rooms and suites in the heart of Renaissance Florence.
Roberto Russo has also been appointed general manager of the hotel. With over 20 years of experience in lifestyle hotels, residential and boutique real estate, co-living and co-working projects, Russo has led several launches of innovative new concepts and brands in Italy and abroad. Born in Puglia, he has worked at the Aleph Hotel in Rome, the Hoxton Hotel in London and the 1888 Hotel in Sydney. He has also led the opening and management of new co-living and co-working projects in London.
Just steps from the historic Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River, the interior of Hotel IL Tornabuoni was designed by Milanese architect Andrea Auletta. Each of the five floors of the IL Tornabuoni is decorated in a particular color scheme as a tribute to the Renaissance. The wallpaper in each room and suite was individually designed by Auletta, and fabrics such as silk, velvet and wool were used for the surfaces. Most rooms and suites have double beds; many have views of the Duomo, Santa Maria del Fiore and Brunelleschi’s famous dome, or the Arno and Ponte Vecchio.
Guests of the IL Tornabuoni can enjoy the three dining rooms. The restaurant and bistro IL Magnifico, located on the ground floor, pays homage to the Tuscan gastronomic tradition with chef Massimiliano Mandozzi at the helm. Chef Mandozzi and his team focus on local and seasonal ingredients for IL Magnifico’s ever-changing menu. The emphasis is on vegetables like Cavolo Nero (Tuscan black cabbage), legumes like the local cannellini beans and local meats like Sienese pork (Maialino) and Chianina (Tuscan beef breed).

The gourmet restaurant Lucie, located on the rooftop of IL Tornabuoni, overlooks the Butterfly Terrace and offers views of Santa Maria Novella, San Frediano, the Ognissanti Church and other Renaissance Florence monuments. Guests can enjoy lunch or an aperitif, as well as signature cocktails and gourmet dishes. IL Magnifico Champagne Café and Bar, located on the main floor, serves sparkling Italian and French mesons.
Guests can also enjoy specialties such as the champagne tea in the afternoon, the Sabraj ritual at 7pm, the L’A aperitivo on Friday, the brunch on Saturday at IL Magnifico and the delicacies from IL Magnifico’s temptation room. Moreover, IL Tornabuoni wants to organize parties in the wine cellar. In the wine cellar, located in the heart of Florence, the staff can create a special menu of wines and champagnes and organize wine tastings for guests and small groups.
IL Tornabuoni is owned by the AG Group and is part of the AG Hotels collection, a portfolio established in 201.1 that includes eleven four- and five-star boutique hotels in Florence and Rome. The AG Group, led by chairman Andrea Girolami, describes itself as the first Italian group to own and operate a hotel business. Future plans for the AG Group include new luxury hotels to expand AG Hotels’ portfolio.
