Many cruise lines honor serving and retired military personnel and veterans by offering discounts on military cruises. They take the form of special rates or ship credits on certain cruises with proof of military service. If you are a veteran, discounted cruises are a great way to enjoy your retirement or visit places you first visited as a member of the military. For military personnel, cruises are a relaxing way to spend time with family, especially after a long military deployment.

The following six cruise lines offer special rates for military cruises.

Military reductions in the Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean offers special rates for the following military personnel or veterans:

  • Active members of the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Guard, or United States Army Reservists.
  • Members of the Canadian Armed Forces on active duty
  • Retired members of the above mentioned armed forces who have retired after 20 or more years of service, for medical reasons or due to severe disability.
  • Veterans of the U.S. Army who have spent at least 6 months in an active combat zone or who have been honorably discharged after 2 years or more of service.
  • Spouses of deceased soldiers

To receive the Royal Caribbean discount for military personnel, you must present a valid military ID showing your active or retired status at the time of registration. Veterans must provide a DD 214 form and photo ID, and spouses must provide a military ID for dependents.

For families of service members of the military, one spouse can make reservations and access Royal Caribbean military rates while the service member spouse stays in the shared cabin. All cruise passengers booked into the same cabin will pay the military rate, but travel companions in additional cabins will not have access to the special rate.

Discounts for Royal Caribbean members and veterans are available for select voyages only.

Carnival, military

Military evaluation event held at each carnival round

Carnival offers discounts to active and retired members of the U.S. and Canadian military, including the following

  • Active, retired and reserve personnel of the United States Armed Forces and Canada’s National Defence.
  • Active U.S. Military Cadets
  • U.S. Coast Guard personnel
  • Active members of the National Guard
  • U.S. Public Health Service patrol officers

After booking a military fare, cruise passengers must email, mail or fax proof of Carnival eligibility to the Interline office within 72 hours of booking (or 24 hours if booking is made one week or less before departure). The documents needed to meet the requirements of the military carnival fare depend on your status.

The U.S. Army must provide a copy of one of the following documents: Copy of certificate of leave and pay with social security number crossed out, military pension record, certificate of honorable discharge or, for cadets only, military paycheck and letter from commander.

The Canadian Army must provide a copy of Form NDI 20 for active members of the Armed Forces or a copy of Form NDI 75 for retired members of the Armed Forces who have been honorably released after at least 10 years of service.

The Carnival does not accept the Veterans Administration card as proof of service.

Any military member can book a cabin at the discounted military carnival rate (usually an early bird discount) and must sail in that cabin.
