EDI is a cumbersome process to undertake in the transportation industry. However, organizations such as United States Postal Service (USPS) and FedEx have been able to adopt EDI successfully over time and are now focusing on how partnerships can help them achieve their goals.

The “edi pledge” is a new study that examines the efforts of destination organizations to implement electronic data interchange. The study found that many destinations are not yet ready to take on the responsibility of EDI.

New Study Examines EDI Efforts of Destination Organizations

The 2022 Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Study on Destination Organizations has recently been issued by Destinations International, the world’s leading resource for official destination organizations, tourist boards, and convention and visitors bureaus (CVBs).

In 2017, Destinations International committed to making Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) a strategic aim for itself, its member organizations, and the tourist industry as a whole.

The association started its study in 2019 with the goal of measuring EDI levels among destination companies all over the world, and it has continued to gather baseline analytics yearly by directly polling its membership.

The 2022 edition offers the business case for EDI practices while also providing statistics, insights, and recommendations on how destination firms may improve their EDI principles, policies, and processes.

“Through thought leadership, best practices, and tools based on EDI standards and principles, Destinations International continues to be dedicated to improving destination communities,” stated Don Welsh, president and CEO of Destinations International.

“We have gone a long way in five years since Destinations International took the choice to embrace equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) as a strategic aim for the organization,” he stated. “It is vital to continue collecting baseline data from members and monitor and assess success on behalf of the destination marketing and management sector in order to build and evolve strategies to attain this goal.”

“Our current report illustrates some of the tremendous work our destination businesses have done in the area of EDI since 2020,” Sophia Hyder Hock, chief diversity officer at Destinations International, said. “We completely understand that there is still work to be done,” she said, “but it’s vital to focus on the modest ripples of change that are occurring now, which will hopefully lead to waves of systemic change in the future.”

“It’s vital for the industry to continue to monitor EDI inside destination businesses,” said Melissa Cherry, chief diversity and inclusion officer/SVP at Miles Partnership and member of Destinations International’s EDI Committee. “Not only can we celebrate accomplishment and development, but we can also keep track of organizational commitment to adopting EDI methods both internally and throughout their local hospitality communities by maintaining a snapshot of general worker demographics and perspectives on EDI.”
