The 2,200-passenger Star Princess began its inaugural voyage from Port of Los Angeles on February 11. The ship left U.S. soil for the first time in a century, sailing to Mexico and then the Caribbean before returning home again with its next round of passengers after five days at sea

The highly-anticipated Discovery Princess has set sail on her inaugural journey, formally welcoming Princess Cruises’ newest ship. The Royal-class ship set sail from Los Angeles on a 7-day Mexican Riviera itinerary on March 27, 2022, and will make her first stops in Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta this week.

Captain Gennaro Arma and Princess Cruises President John Padgett received the new cruise ship with much hoopla, and her very first guests, Michael and Sally Smith, were greeted with a special ceremony by Captain Gennaro Arma and Princess Cruises President John Padgett. A commemorative plaque was presented to the couple, who reside in Sacramento, California, and have been regular Princess Cruises passengers for the last ten years.
“Today we celebrate our newest ship, Discovery Princess, as she sets sail from the Place of Los Angeles on her inaugural journey to the Mexican Riviera – the same port from which our very first cruise sailed in 1965,” Padgett remarked.

Princess Cruises has the longest history of sailing from the West Coast and provides a variety of itineraries to Mexico, Alaska, and the California coast.
From March 27 to April 24, 2022, Discovery Princess will provide a series of Mexican Riviera and California Coast cruises. Her first journey is the first to the Mexican Riviera, and it will be repeated on April 10.
The 7-day California Coast sailings, which leave on April 3 and 17 and stop in Ensenada, Mexico, will visit San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and San Diego.
On April 24, an unique 5-day Baja Getaway voyage will stop at Cabo San Lucas, stopping overnight to give guests plenty of opportunity to see the famed El Arco and other amazing sights in the area.

Following that unique voyage, Discovery Princess will go up the Pacific coast to Seattle, where she will begin a season of seven-day Alaska excursions, making her the region’s newest ship. The ship will provide 7-day Inside Passage cruises while exploring the Last Frontier, stopping at notable ports including Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Victoria.
When the Alaska season finishes in late September, the ship will return to Los Angeles to begin autumn and winter sailings around the Mexican Riviera and California Coast.
On a new ship, there are some new features.
Discovery Princess, as befitting a new ship, has a slew of exciting new amenities for passengers to enjoy. The Sky Suites include the biggest balcony at sea – 1,000 square feet – as well as Spotlight Bar, a brand-new Broadway-style theatrical play situated in a dynamic bar ambiance where local storytellers share stories of their life via music.
The 1,346 staff members onboard the ship will provide guests with the cruise line’s renowned attentive service.

The 145,000-gross-ton ship, Princess Cruises’ fifteenth, has 25 bars and restaurants to cater to all tastes, as well as the renowned Take Five lounge, which includes live jazz in a vintage-inspired ambiance and special gin cocktail concoctions.

Guests may unwind in a variety of pools and hot tubs, including the infinity-style Wakeview pool and bar, which gives stunning views of the horizon from the ship’s stern, and the tranquil Retreat Pool.
Younger guests will enjoy the Camp Discovery Youth & Teen Center and Discovery at SEA programs, and other popular Princess Cruises’ features – the Lotus Spa, Movies Under the Stars, the casino, and more – are all part of Discovery Princess and are sure to delight passengers for many years to come.
