Want to book one of the best new cruise ships for your next adventure? Have a look at the MSC Virtuosa. This brand new cruise ship is part of the Meraviglia Plus class and is scheduled to be delivered in October 2020 to sail during the 2020 and 2021 winter seasons.

Like much of the cruise industry, MSC Cruises’ plans have been put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic virus. But today everything is back to normal and we are ready to welcome MSC Virtuoso to the ranks of the world’s exceptional luxury cruise liners. The ship will debut in May 2021.

While the MSC Virtuosa was scheduled to sail the Mediterranean in her first season of 2020, the change in itineraries means the MSC Virtuosa’s first season will be in the British Isles: Cruises around England and Scotland in summer 2021. A trip to the Persian Gulf is planned for late fall 2021, with Dubai as the ship’s temporary base.

If you are planning a cruise on MSC Virtuosa this year or in the near future, what exactly can you expect? We’ve gathered all the information you’ll need for your upcoming cruise, so you can familiarize yourself with the ship and the experience before you even step on board.

MSC Virtuosa Statistics and facts

The ship will be the ninth largest cruise ship in the world from 2021, sharing that spot with sister ship MSC Grandiosa. As a mega-ship, her size is definitely something to get excited about, and it’s definitely something to consider before booking a cruise (big ships have their pros and cons, after all).

MSC Virtuosa…

  • Weight 181.541 GT
  • Length 1,087 feet
  • Height 213 feet
  • Offer 19 bridges
  • Maximum capacity of 6,334 passengers (although the normal capacity for double occupancy is 4,842 passengers).
  • has 1 704 more crew members on board than the total number of guests

In total, the Meraviglia Plus-class cruise ship cost MSC Cruises 800 million euros from 2016, when the ship was ordered from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France.

What you can expect from Meraviglia Plus Class

Much of what a ship has to offer and what you can expect from it is determined by the class of the ship. In the case of MSC Virtuosa, it is a Meraviglia Plus class ship. This is the second ship of its kind in the world, following MSC Grandiosa, the flagship of the class (and the entire cruise line). A third Meraviglia Plus-class ship is planned for 2022 and will be called MSC Europa.

So what can you expect from the Meraviglia Plus class? If you’ve ever travelled on a Meraviglia class ship, such as MSC Meraviglia or MSC Bellissima, you can expect a similar experience but on a bigger, better ship.

The Meraviglia Plus class ships surpass the Meraviglia class ships by about 10,000 GT, and they’ve been upgraded in everything from entertainment to restaurants – so let’s get into the details.

Environmental characteristics

MSC Virtuosa’s environmental record is impressive. Following in the footsteps of MSC Grandiosa, MSC Virtuosa is one of the most environmentally friendly ships in the world.

Thanks to advanced technology, the ship has actually reduced its emissions by 98%. Energy-saving equipment maximizes productivity – everywhere from marine ventilation to heating and cooling. New sewage treatment plants better protect marine life from sewage.

And all this is just superficial information. In other words: If you are concerned about the carbon footprint of your travels and the amount of pollution your cruise leaves in the world, you should book a cruise on this particular ship.

Cabins

When you book a cruise aboard MSC Virtuosa you will be able to choose from a variety of staterooms and suites. Cabin options include:

  • Studio cabins inside
  • Inside cabins
  • Cabins with sea view
  • Family cabins
  • Balcony cabins

They all have their perks, such as full or partial ocean views, spacious bathrooms, plenty of storage space, extra sitting areas and much more. If you are traveling with your family, be sure to consider the family cabins, as they essentially offer two connecting suites or cabins with balconies that can accommodate six to twelve people.

Lux

If you want to enhance your cruise experience a bit more, you can do so by booking a suite on board the ship. Suite options include…

  • Basic equipment
  • Private apartments with whirlpool
  • Large suites with private jacuzzi

For an even greater level of comfort, book a stay at the MSC Virtuosa Yacht Club, which offers more space, more luxurious accommodations and many additional amenities. The yacht club offers VIP suites including inside cabins, suites, duplex suites and a royal suite.

Entertainment options

One of the things MSC Cruises does best is provide sophisticated, top-class entertainment. A cruise on the MSC Virtuosa offers something for everyone, whether it’s an adults-only or family cruise, a casual or formal cruise.

For outdoor fun, the Savannah Water Park offers three different water slides and several pools. For indoor entertainment, the Grand Theatre offers three different events each evening and several live shows during each cruise.

MSC Virtuosa, Horizon Pool

For adult-only entertainment, visit the casino, where you’ll find a wide selection of slot machines and table games. The Sportplex, with its basketball, tennis, soccer and even volleyball courts, is ideal for active recreation; after sunset, this innovative space transforms into a public space.

Don’t miss the Galleria Virtuosa with its LED dome (the longest at sea!) and the rows of shops and restaurants on both sides of the promenade. Finally, simulators seem to be a trend on cruise ships these days, and again the MSC Virtuosa offers Formula 1 racing simulators for all ages.

Restaurants and bars

With all the entertainment on offer, appetites are not neglected and there are plenty of options onboard MSC Virtuosa to feed the whole family. The ship boasts 10 restaurants and 21 different bars and lounges, ranging from the well-known and popular MSC Cruises offers to new ones you may never have heard of, even if you have been a long-time fan of MSC Cruises.

Technical data

But in addition to the many ways to stay busy, this spaceship also offers you a very convenient way to get organized.

Available from the Apple App Store and Android Google Play Store, the MSC for Me app allows you to better plan your cruise experience, connect with other cruise passengers and ultimately spend your vacation the way you want.
