After a 3 month cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas, a passenger was removed from the ship in question after testing positive for marijuana.
Royal Caribbean Cruises Caribbean cruise ship was forced to remove a passenger from a cruise ship after a blood test revealed that she had a positive pregnancy test. The incident occurred on Monday, March 27, 2013, when a passenger was found by a crew member to be carrying a pregnancy test.
As one of the biggest cruise lines in the world, Royal Caribbean has got to be very careful about the kind of people they let on board their ships. This time, an Australian man named Frank Allen was asked to leave a Royal Caribbean cruise after he got a positive drug test result. It turns out, he had recently started using cocaine.. Why Did Her Video Go Viral?
Laura Angelo says that when she and her companion Valerie Murphy boarded the ship at PortMiami for a trip to the Bahamas on July 5th, they were issued the incorrect colour wrist bands.
Despite the fact that Angel0 and Murphy were both unvaccinated when they boarded the ship, they were given purple wristbands indicating that they had been vaccinated, according to the Miami Herald.
When the error was found, the two ladies were tested, as is standard procedure on cruise ships. Angelo’s test was said to be positive, while Murphy’s was said to be inconclusive.
Murphy’s second test resulted with a negative result. Angelo claims that her request for a second test, as well as the ability to see the findings being processed, was refused.
Angelo recorded a profanity-laced Facebook Live video while being taken off the ship, which has now gone viral. Angelo narrates her version of events throughout the livestream (which you can see in its full here), at one point removing her mask to scream into the camera. Later, she threatens to “leap straight off this wheelchair and you’ll be doubly guilty if I get injured.”
The video received over 600 comments when it was uploaded to the website Reddit’s Public Freakout thread, with few of them praising Angelo and her actions.
Royal Caribbean spokesman Jonathon Fishman did not answer to inquiries about Angelo’s allegation that she and her companion were mistaken as being vaccinated in a statement to the publication.
He did add that 90% of the passengers and staff on board had been vaccinated, and that “all those who had in close touch with the visitor had been vaccinated and were promptly recognized before testing negative as well.”
Royal Caribbean’s current policy is to strongly advise — but not mandate — that all passengers get vaccinated before to boarding. Those who have not been vaccinated face extra COVID-19 testing and limitations aboard.
According to the Miami Herald, CDC maritime unit director Aimee Treffiletti stated in a recent court filing that during the Freedom of the Seas’ test cruises, agency inspectors made mistakes similar to those Angelo alleges, including failing to keep passengers who had tested positive separated from passengers cleared for embarkation during the boarding process.
