The Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cardholders have been enjoying this promotion dubbed “Cultural Vistas,” which offers up to 100,000 Chase Ultimate Reward points per year after spending $4,000 on the card during the first 90 days. And the good news is that the promotion is set to end at the end of this month, on May 31st.
Rumors of Chase’s next Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cards are out. We have received info from our sources that there will be 2 new Chase Sapphire Preferred cards that will come out next month. First is a co-branded Chase Sapphire Preferred/Chase American Express card, which will be a Visa and come with a $500 annual statement credit on travel expenses. The other prepaid card will be a no annual fee Chase Sapphire Reserve card that will come with a $300 annual statement credit on travel expenses. These cards are expected to launch on June 10, 2017.
The Chase Sapphire Preferred and Reserve cards are two of the most popular travel credit cards on the market, and they both offer top-notch perks which make them a great value for consumers. Some of these benefits include no foreign transaction fees (FTF), a free first year of Uber Credit, a $300 annual travel credit, a $75 statement credit for each airline ticket purchased, and a $150 annual credit for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck.. I am compensated for the content and many links on my site. Citibank, American Express, Chase, Barclays, and Capital One are all advertising partners on this site. My advertising partners have not reviewed, authorized, or supported any of the views stated in this article. I don’t write about all credit cards; instead, I concentrate on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). The offers and perks mentioned on this website are subject to the terms.
Based on cardmember agreements uploaded on Reddit, Doctor of Credit examines reported changes (all enhancements!) to Chase’s Sapphire Reserve and Preferred cards.
If these modifications are final and not drafts or papers that were uploaded in mistake, they will take effect on August 15.
Sapphire Preferred is said to offer a $50 hotel credit per cardmember per year, as well as improved earning (5x on travel booked through the Chase portal; 3x on dining, streaming services, and online grocery (excluding Walmart, Target, and wholesale clubs); and a 10% anniversary bonus on all points earned during the year following payment of the card’s annual fee – excluding initia.
Sapphire Reserve is said to earn 10x points on Chase Dining, as well as hotels and rental cars booked via the Chase travel portal; 5x points on air travel booked through the Chase travel portal; and 3x points on all other travel and dining (as today).
All of them reflect advances in card value proposition, particularly for the Preferred card, in my opinion.
While a high line of 10x for Reserve-earning is remarkable, I believe they are extremely restricted areas. For non-chain hotel reservations, I’d use the Chase travel site, but that’s a rare occurrence. And if they provided the lowest price and let me utilize all available coupons, I’d reserve rental vehicles via them. Third-party air reservations irritate me because they may go wrong when I need assistance from an airline. Amex Platinum, on the other hand, gives you 5x points on all flights booked directly with an airline.
In other words, I see these reported changes as primarily increasing the value of Sapphire Preferred while essentially preserving the current quo on Reserve.
It’s unclear if the yearly costs would alter as a result of these changes. I wouldn’t pick the cards based on these rumors; to be clear, they aren’t actual offers, but they’re worth thinking about as you plan your approach.
