Marriott International has introduced a new co-pay for its free breakfast, just in time for the busy holiday travel season. This is Marriott’s latest move to make their customers feel like they’re getting something extra from them by asking them to pay more than guests who don’t have elite status. Experts are divided on whether or not this will be enough of an incentive to keep people coming back year after year.,

The “marriott titanium elite breakfast” is a new Marriott hotel that charges elite members a cash co-pay for their free breakfast. The hotel has been designed with the idea of making it as luxurious and comfortable as possible.

This Marriott hotel requires elite members to pay a cash co-payment for their complimentary breakfast.

The Delta Hotel Daytona Beach Oceanfront seems to have discovered a loophole in the Marriott Bonvoy rules and regulations that allows it to charge elite members a cash co-pay for their complimentary breakfast perk. They aren’t the only Marriott resort that does this, but they take an exceptionally bold approach in my opinion.

Here’s a typical full-service Marriott elite breakfast voucher with the back information, which includes a free continental breakfast with gratuity. It’s a Marriott standard form document.

This hotel seems to have taken the usual form and changed it to state that the complementary breakfast does not include gratuities. In other words, the hotel provides less to breakfast and expects the visitor to pay more.

By the way, this hotel’s Continental Breakfast includes oatmeal or cold cereal, fresh fruit and skim milk, a choice of bread, juice, and coffee. They’ll also give you a $8 credit to use on other menu items.

This hotel is taking the term “continental breakfast” to its logical conclusion, and they are offering a continental breakfast in order to fulfill their commitments (tip-inclusiveness aside). Some hotels go above and above, and Hyatt’s program mandates that hotels provide a complete (rather than just continental) breakfast.

The $8 credit, on the other hand, is eye-catching. I’m recalled that the CEO of hotel owning firm DiamondRock complained to Marriott about earning just $7 for breakfast. This isn’t a DiamondRok facility; it’s owned by Hospitality Ventures Management Group, which may explain why they’re ready to give you a $8 credit on your retail bill.

It would be very beneficial for Marriott to be more precise in its terms about what is truly needed of hotels, however I see this as purposeful ambiguity on their part. Many hotels will go above and above the bare minimum that certain establishments believe they can get away with. They do, however, let hotels get away with a lot since Marriott’s primary motive is to keep owners happy, which includes paying fees.

Hyatt, on the other hand, is explicit about what breakfast is and that the cost of breakfast refers to the real fee that a visitor could be charged:

Globalists will enjoy a daily free full breakfast for each registered guest in the room, up to a limit of two (2) adults and two (2) children (which includes one entrée or regular breakfast buffet, juice, and coffee, as well as tax, gratuity, and service charges).

Because gratuity is included in the cost of breakfast, visitors must not be expected to pay cash when they consume it to be called gratis. The Delta Hotel Daytona Beach Oceanfront, on the other hand, has devised a method of charging top guests a cash co-pay for their ‘free’ breakfast.

More From the Wing’s Perspective

The “marriott points increase” is a new policy that Marriott has implemented. The company will now charge members of their elite status for breakfast, even though they are already paying with Marriott points.
