Norway’s two largest cruise ship operators, Viking Cruises and Hurtigruten Line, announced yesterday their decision to resume operations of the ships that were grounded in March due to heavy ice. The announcement comes after a difficult winter where Norwegian ports had trouble handling large amounts of traffic.

The “ncl cancelled cruises 2022” is a cruise line that has been in the business for over 100 years. The company recently announced that they will be returning to service on December 31, 2020.

The Norwegian Cruise Line fleet relaunch is still underway.

Norway’s Crown

After two years without sailing due to the pandemic-induced industry shutdown, Norway’s Crown welcomed guests back on board today in Panama.

This trip takes you from Panama City to San Diego through the Panama Canal, with stops in Puntarenas, Costa Rica; San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua; Acajutla, El Salvador; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala; and Hautulco, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

It also includes a complete midday Panama Canal passage.

Following a couple of excursions along the Mexican Riviera, the ship will proceed north to Vancouver, where it will begin a season of one-way, seven-night Alaska cruises between Vancouver and Seward.

Norway’s Crown was built in 2005, and is the lead ship in Norwegian’s Jewel-class. In 2018, she underwent a major renovation as part of the Norwegian Edge program. After a two-week dry dock, she emerged with updated venues, refreshed spaces, redesigned cabins, and a brand-new entertainment lineup.

Jade from Norway

The second Norwegian ship to restart this week is Jade from Norway.

This is not the ship’s first voyage after the industry closure; in fact, when it set sail from Greece in July 2021, Jade was the ship that started off the whole Norwegian Cruise Line fleet’s relaunch.

The ferry will begin duty in Europe tomorrow, marking its first time back in service after being laid up for the winter. It’ll be the first in a series of seven- to nine-night eastern Mediterranean cruises that will sail from Piraeus (Athens) and Civitavecchia (Rome).

The routes will take passengers to the Greek Islands, Cyprus, Turkey, Italy, Malta, and Israel, among other places.

Because her initial South African season was canceled owing to pandemic-related conditions, the ship spent the most of the winter berthed.

Originally named Pride of Hawaii, Jade from Norway entered service in 2006. She’s the third in the Jewel-class, and was updated in 2017 as part of the Edge program — receiving technical enhancements and refreshed public spaces.

With the addition of these two ships, Norwegian Cruise Line will have a total of 13 ships available for passenger service.
