The gorgeous and scenic view of Fairhope Municipal Pier, What To Do At And Around Fairhope Municipal Pier

The Fairhope Municipal Pier is a must-see for anybody visiting the city of Fairhope.

Fairhope Pier is bordered by neighborhood parks. So, in addition to the pier immediately in front of you, there are a few walking paths with stunning views of the bay. In fact, the pier’s park area is one of the city’s most popular spots for watching a spectacular sunset.

The pier’s parking lot is a circular loop at the bottom of the pier. In the center is a well-kept rose garden with a fountain. Although it is a tiny region, it is worth seeing.

If you have difficulty locating parking in this location, there is extra parking on the side at North Beach (non-residents may be charged a parking fee during summer hours) or a few spots up top near the cliff lookouts.

Don’t worry if nature calls while you’re on the pier. On the pier, there are public toilets. The facilities are just across the street from the marina. The marina includes a seafood restaurant, but we couldn’t discover the hours or confirm if it was still operating.

The city hosts a number of events on the pier park grounds throughout the year. From Fourth of July celebrations to local live music, there is something for everyone.

Let’s take a look at the top four things to do on the pier.

1. Appreciate the Sunset

The sunsets at Fairhope are well-known. It seemed that many residents used the pier to watch the sun set over Mobile Bay on a daily basis.

We saw a number of people bringing their own chairs and blankets to relax and enjoy nature and the changing evening hues when we went to the pier area to watch the sunset one night. We didn’t think of bringing chairs, but there are lots of park benches spread around the area that give a clear view of the sunset if you forget (or just don’t want to carry them).

A bluff area above the park is also a popular observation point. To reach to the top, you may either park your vehicle on the streets next to the bluffs or climb several wooden stairs (if you’re feeling brave!). Regardless matter where you sit, the breathtaking Fairhope sunset will take your breath away.

2. Fish

Fishing is a common pastime on the pier. If you do this, make sure you have your Alabama saltwater fishing license. Alabama fishing permits may be found here.

One of the most common fishing techniques you’ll see off the pier is cast nets (yes, these require licenses, too). It’s a fascinating process to observe. There were at least five groups using cast nets every time we went. They also caught quite a few fish.

3. Beach and Swimming Activities

There are several water-related activities to enjoy in the pier area, which we describe in more depth below. You could easily spend a whole day here, swimming in the water and relaxing on the beach.

4. Take a walk around the pier and the surrounding trails.

You can take in a lot of the surrounding landscape and activities since the pier is a quarter-mile long. Keep an eye out for fisherman, marine life, and the pelicans that Fairhope is renowned for. The skyline of Mobile, Alabama, can even be seen across the water.

If you’re looking to get some exercise, the Fairhope Pier area offers many paths to choose from. We only walked a short portion of one path (we were exhausted after walking about the downtown area), but they do provide a pleasant outdoor experience for those who are interested.

We noticed a number of other folks out enjoying nature and taking in the scenery.
